Visa Sucks ! - Episode 1

I am not sure how much the other nationalities are aware of this topic, but there are billions of people in the world who need to go through a tough visa application process. And, well, my regionally-unidentified country Turkey has these unlucky citizens too.

Let me tell you what is the reality and I recognized our funny situation after I realized that this 'visa application process' is not really an issue. Usually conversations started between two turkish guys :

- "Did you get the visa to bla bla country ?"
- "They want bla bla papers too, and you ?
- "They gave 1 week visa instead of 6 months."

And my lovely friend from the mentioned country jumps :

- "Ah, do you really need to have a visa to come here ?"
- "Yes"
- "They never asked me in Turkey, but I am sorry to hear that"

Now, there are different kinds of funny(!) stories from my past 15 visa applications, changing from 3 days to 1 year long. And, yes, until 19, I could never been abroad and average age of not having an abroad experience is much more higher in Turkey because of several reasons like low incomes, travelling not being a priority, visa requirements, lack of low cost flights, etc...

First of all, I must say that I have no problem with people coming to Turkey, that's perfect. Security check and that's it. Annoying part is the unfair agreements and political games between countries. I don't get it how travelling policies can be managed in such an unfair way. You are welcome in our country, but we are so loser that our citizens must collect tens of papers, come for your approval and wait for their destiny if they will be accepted or rejected.

You have to prove your financial situation so that they can see that you have enough money + assets to travel. You have to show that you will be coming back at a certain date, proved by plane/bus/train tickets. You have to convince them about the purpose of your travel. And many others, educational info, your family's demographics, your marital status, etc. etc...

And much funnier part is, they do not need to tell you the reason of rejection, if you are rejected. You get your pass, check the rejection stamp and go back home. That's it ! And according to union bla bla security issues, your rejection would effect your next applications which means you are disputable.

All these repeating headlines on the news like "This year, Germany will start to accept turkish citizens with these conditions ...." or "No more visa for one more who-knows-where country" make the situation even more annoying.

Well, what can I say, we shouldn't be that poshy to have a travelling interest, maybe that's too much for a third world country citizen.
